Stripping, Beating Woman


A 25 year-old unemployed man in Lagos is standing trial for allegedly stripping a woman naked after beating her.
The accused, Saheed Akorede, of Boundary Area of Ajegunle, appeared before an Apapa Chief Magistrates’ Court, on Monday on a three-count charge of felony, assault and stealing.
Akorede, however, pleaded not guilty before Chief Magistrate Mr Amos Adeyemi.
The Prosecutor, Corporal Friday Inedu, told the court that the accused had a case to answer for tearing his victim’s clothes.
He alleged that the accused and three others, now at large, tore one Mrs Fatimoh Olofin’s clothes following a scuffle, as they attempted to steal her belongings.
He said that the offence was committed on January 27 at about 1 a.m., at Asoju Street, Ijora-Badia, Apapa.
Inedu also alleged that Akorede and three others at large, on same time, date and place, stole N74,000 cash and a Nokia handset, from Olofin during the attack.
The prosecutor said that the accused had contravened Sections 170, 285 and 409 of the Criminal Code, Laws of Lagos State.
Adeyemi granted the accused bail in the sum of N50,000, with one surety in like sum.
He also directed the surety to show evidence of tax payment to the Lagos State Government and adjourned the case till February 21
